Occupancy Permit: Before you move into a commercial building, you must apply for occupancy, pay the permit fee and pass a fire safety inspection. If you are doing construction prior to occupancy, the Occupancy Permit is included in your building permit. New Construction, Alteration, Addition: The fire district conducts electronic plan review and issues permits for construction. As of June 2021, commercial buildings are required to be permitted and inspected. Plans must be signed and sealed by a design professional.

Attention Fire Sprinkler Contractors and building owners! Effective July 2026, inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems must be performed by technicians with current ASSE 15010 certification.
A Fire District permit is required for 1.3 and consumer 1.4 fireworks on public or commercial properties or on premises used to accommodate the public or public gatherings for the primary purpose of recreation, entertainment or assembly, including marinas, golf courses, private clubs, public facilities including parks and fairgrounds, commercial outdoor recreation, public and private schools, wineries and breweries, common ground controlled by homeowners' associations, churches, racetracks for vehicles or animals, and banquet halls.
The accurate determination of the origin and cause of fires are fundamental to the protection of lives and property within the Augusta Fire District. We have state Fire Investigator credentials as well as CFI and Evidence Technician certification from the International Association of Arson Investigators and Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator from NAFI.
